The Department, with the assistance of BVI Cable TV, runs Fire Safety tips to educate the public in fire safety.
- In case of fire, telephone the Fire and Rescue Department by dialing 999 or 911 and clearly state the location of the fire.
- If a closed door feels warm don’t open it; fire could be behind it.
- Close the doors of the room where the fire is located. This will delay the spread of the fire and smoke.
- Close all doors. If there is a fire this will help to prevent spreading and protect your escape routes.
- If you are cut off by fire, remember that smoke is as deadly as flames. Close doors and any other openings and seal cracks with bedding.

- Don’t overload your electrical outlets.
